1. Depending on which book you chose you could have an awesome and lovely story that happens to be about werewolves (or whatever) or you could have just another book about werewolves (or whatever).

I think some of the originals that set this craze in motion are very good, but most of the following up on that seem to be the same thing dressed in new clothes. Every once in a while, though, there are fresh and interesting takes on the paranormal theme. We need more of those.

1. So, I think it is fair to say that the publishers have went a little crazy signing so many vampire/werewolf/paranormal trend because people in the YA community have highly praised a few (and then there’s the part about Twilight exploding). I think it makes it harder to find the best writing and storytelling–like, the market is flooded with it, so it makes it more difficult to know what is actually good. That is when the YA blogging community and YA writer book suggestions become very helpful. If your favorite YA writer liked a book, chances are you will enjoy it as well. My favorites out there right now are: Cassie Clare’s shadowhunter world with The Mortal Instruments and (upcoming) The Infernal Devices, Sarah Rees-Brennan’s Demon series, as well as Maggie’s Wolves of Mercy Falls (of course).

Thank you so much for sharing.
I really hope I get it.
I’m LOVING the new trend in current YA novels. So much so I’m writing my own. I can’t wait to read Linger.
+1 I think the vampire/werewolf/paranormal trend is getting even stronger nowadays, after Twilight became an international bestseller. But thankfully, different authors present different storylines and concepts, and this succeeds in making the paranormal genre better.

What I think about the recent urban/paranormal werewolf/vampire trend in YA novels is that authors are playing it safe by writing about this genre rather than breaking from this mold and trying something new. The authors know this stuff sells so they write about it. Ever since twilight came out it seems to me there is an overwhelming amount of books on these similar themes. I guess creativity and uniqueness just went out the window. But I think it will die down in a few years and hopefully we will get something new and refreshing. But I am a fan of these kinds of books for now!

I think that because of the popularity of the paranormal werewolf/vampire books, some authors are getting lazy with their writing and think that if they just pop out a book that includes these things, that it will sell. I think the quality of writing has dropped significantly aside from the good ones. There are so many books on these subjects that I don’t even know which ones to read.

I have read Shiver and am a fan of Maggie’s. I am looking forward to Linger. Hope to win a copy! I don’t really mind the big buzz around paranormal YA novels, its is actually becoming a favorite of mine. I’m all for it.

I am excited about Linger. I love to read paranormal novels, especially about werewolves and vampires. Although I think these types of books are outdone, they do remain interesting to read. I also started getting into fallen angel and faery paranormal novels which are great as well. Now I feel like if the book is just about a regular teen romance, it seems pretty boring. I need the fantasy/paranormal stuff added in to make it exciting.

I think that this trend in paranormal novels is also good for teens who didn’t like to read before and because of twilight, they now love to read books. I think that it doesn’t really matter what the book is about as long as the people are responding to the material. I know a lot of people who disliked reading and now try to get their hands on as much paranormal YA novels as they can.

I think that some of the paranormal YA writers are missing out on writing about other topics that I think people will love as well. I don’t think that trying to use similar ideas to promote their books sales is helping to improve them as writers. I think people should come up with their own ideas.
